of the innovative IPU-16
| Configurability | The IPU-16 permits any number of inputs to control any number of outputs without restriction. This flexibility, together with the intuitive configuration program, allows you to set up the vehicle's electrical system quickly and easily, unencumbered by many of the constraints of conventional techniques. You can forget about fuses, too. Simply use the program to select a suitable current limit value for each output. Changing a load no longer means swapping fuses - simply alter the current limit value to suit the new power rating. Without making any hardware changes, you can configure a momentary switch to latch ‘on’ for a selectable period, and you can make any input ‘pulse’ any output at a rate of your choosing. |
|---|---|
| Versatility | The configuration software makes it easy to reconfigure the inputs and outputs and to change the functionality of the system as often as you wish. Create a new configuration on your computer whenever and wherever you like, then download it to the IPU-16 either in the workshop or at the racetrack. Without making any hardware changes, you can reconfigure the IPU-16 to fine-tune the system, or to experiment with new ideas. |
| Precision | Unlike wire-link fuses, which have a broad tolerance on the actual fuse value, the IPU-16 has precise current limit values for each output. As well as providing the reassurance that your system is optimally protected, the accurate trip levels often make it possible to minimise a load's wire diameter and so reduce the overall harness weight. When using the diagnostic software, the IPU-16 displays measurements of all load currents in real time. |
| Reliability | The IPU-16 has been designed and built using tried and tested motorsport techniques and parts. By eliminating the need for most of the vehicle's traditional fuses and relays, the unit can substantially reduce faults caused by mechanical failure, thereby resulting in a more dependable system. |
| Weight | At just 850g (1.87lbs) the IPU-16 is lighter than many conventional fuse and relay boxes. By its very nature, the IPU-16 minimises the number and diameter of wires in the electrical system, thereby reducing the vehicle's overall weight. |
| Size | Embracing modern solid-state components and surface-mount technology, the IPU-16 is significantly smaller than ‘conventional’ fuse boxes in most applications. The unit's compact size simplifies installation and maintenance. |
| Wiring | The IPU-16 allows for significantly reduced cable size on all inputs, and in most cases simplifies the wiring harness connected to the outputs. This makes installation quick and simple, whilst reducing loom weight. |
| Maintenance | The modular system approach and the use of quick-release connectors and a simplified wiring harness makes for easier maintenance and reduces downtime. |
| Troubleshooting | The utility software allows the system designer or maintenance engineer to monitor load currents on all outputs. Together with other diagnostic functions, these tools simplify commissioning and fault finding, and enhance the ability to monitor and assess system performance. |
